The principles of good distribution practice (GDP) stipulate minimum standards for wholesale distribution of pharmaceuticals. Wholesale distribution of pharmaceuticals is any activity consisting of the procurement, storage, supply or export of pharmaceuticals, with the exception of the supply of pharmaceuticals to the public.
The guideline not only helps ensure products reach the end user in perfect condition, but also protects the supply chain from counterfeit or contaminated products.
The planning and careful implementation of intelligent transport and storage concepts in accordance with Good Distribution Practice (GDP) are therefore of enormous importance for the quality and effectiveness of many drugs and thus for patient safety. The same applies, of course, to the monitoring of these concepts.
Completely revised GDP guidelines for the sale of medicinal products and active ingredients have been published at European level, and in Germany the Pharmaceutical Trade Ordinance (AM-HandelsV) has been fundamentally revised.
